On the night of 01/02 January 2016, Subedar (Hon captain) Fateh Singh and Havaldar Kulwant Singh were on
duty guarding the airbase when the militants tried to infiltrate it. A gun-battle ensued in the course of which
both the terrorists were killed but Subedar (Hon captain) Fateh Singh was martyred as he succumbed to his own
injuries. His extra ordinary courage
in the face of the enemy came in for much acclaim from all across the country.
He is survived by his children Madhu Radha (who incidentally also was a pall bearer of his coffin, a first of sorts for Northern India), Nitin Thakur and Gurdeep singh Deepu.
